Day: 1113
Shirt: the Cardigans - Band Drawing
Color:  Tan
Brand: Fruit Of The Loom Heavy
Source:  I wanna say this was 2003?  the Troubadour in LA.  but who knows.  i suppose i AM at a computer and could look it up while i type this, but your memory is a muscle and you need to exercise it…right?
I have been a real long time fan of this band, i am pretty sure it was acoustic Black Sabbath covers that really did it for me, they nailed this songs so good.  then they got kinda blown out by love fool and you heard that song over n over n over.  then like most radio pop hits, people stop caring, lose interest. but they kept making good albums, i kept buying them, and going to see them live every time they came to town.  still would had they not thrown in the towel.  I guess i will just have to wait for the reunion tour.  yeah ill go to that too.

Day: 1106
Shirt: Gray Matter - Bite The Bit
Color:  Black
Brand: American Style t-shirts
Source:  there was a time when Dischord would fart out any record and i (and probably a lot of other kids) would buy it. Didn’t matter what it sounded like you just knew that if Dischord put it out it was going to be just good at the very least.  i spent a lot of tome buying albums on the back of all my Dag Nasty / Fugazi purchases that i thought its only 5 bucks ill try it out.

this ad is a perfect example here.  use obscure Cynthia Conolly photo, add band name at bottom and boom i was sold.  i would say i bought every album form the list above there aside from Fidelity Jones, which i can’t even say i ever remember.  aside from Fugazi, i knew no other band on that list until i mail ordered them.  i think i have to say my most favorite surprise album from this list was Holly Rollers.  i really enjoy ed that album a lot.
Grey Matter was no joke either, it was solid and i liked it but it was never the undiscovered Dag Nasty you always secretly hoped for.  i will take any band on Dischord any day of the week over anything that gets played on the radio today tho.  anyday.

Shirt: Fastbreak  - Whenever You’re Ready

Color:  Black

Brand: Tultex

Source:  Its Saturday.

Day: 1102
Shirt: Orbital - Space Boys
Color:  Hunter Green
Brand: Hanes Beefty-T
Source:  YESTERDAY, i got all caught up in packing and shipping shirts so i spaced (no pun intended) on it and yada yada here is is.  i have enjoyed some electronic music since the early 90’s if not earlier and still enjoy it today. especially bands who can create really distinctive creative sounds via electronic music cause its not easy to sound unique in this landscape.  Orbital, Underworld, Daft Punk, Ratatat, they all have successfully identified a sound and made it their own.
its a little more difficult today because a lot of it has been done, and that i feel makes a band sound a little more dated.  example, Drum And Bass in the 90’s ad Dubstep in the 10’s

Shirt: the Spinanes - That Way
Color:  Maroon
Brand: Oneita Power T
Source:  A long long time ago, wow 10 years ago exactly i would discover this song by Fluf (also formerly Olivelawn) who put out what i think was a compilation of Singles or b-Sides or something.  there was a really beautiful song on there i loved called “Entire.”  I never thought anything else much of it other than damn thats a really good song.  i listened to the shit out of it a lot.  I’ve posted it below cause i can’t find it anywhere

So a decade later a friend would send me a bunch of much and i kept repeating this one song.  I was thinking how do i know this, i mean i know it but i have never heard it before.  turned out rafter some searching it was this Fluf song, only it was Fluf who covered it a decade ago unbeknownst to me.  so a decade later i get to fall in love with it all over again with a whole new set of ears. Its the same song, but in an tiredly beautiful different way.  I love it.
it really is the thing i love about music and how it can be interpreted, relearned and re-loved over and over again.  listen to the original below.

Day: 1098

Shirt: Danzig - the Lost Tapes / Blackest Of The Black Tour 2008

Color:  Black

Brand: Gilden Ultra Cotton

Source:  If the above art looks extra good and awesome to you its because it is.  It is a comic book artist Simon Bisley’s work.  to my knowledge mostly a comic book artist, at least thats where i know him from, but damn can he make Danzig look fucking rugged.  look at this sketch before i pulled from his site that mustve been used someplace else. or maybe never got used at all?!

Be rad if he was crushing someone in this drawing.  maybe that guy form that band that punched him out on that video.  :)  Danzig. i don’t even know where to put the energy into this man.  there is part of me that will always love the “Idea” of Danzig but i feel like until he changes in some sort his days of making amazing music are over.  I low that sounds sad, Who knows this.  maybe he reads this and is like FUCK that guy wTF does he know I’m going to fucking smash him, but first I’m going to write the best album ever and prove him wrong.

so in the mean time i can only stomach putting up Danzig I for your listening pleasure.

Day: 1088

Shirt: Tears for Fears - Seeds Of Love US Tour 1990

Color:  Black

Brand: Brockum

Source:  i will say it till I’m blue in the face how good this band is.  so many good hits in their past and recently they just put out a few covers of some really well chosen songs. one was Animal Collectives “My Girls” and the other is Hot Chip’s “Boy From School.”  I was so stoked to hear them release these songs cause i really like the originals of both songs and i felt as though Tears For Fears really did them justice while at the same time adding their own flavor to it. ill post em below.  you listen.

Day: 1083
Shirt: Negativeland / SST - Kill Bono
Color:  Black
Brand: Hanes Heavyweight
Source:  I bought this from an SST mail-order catalog back in the day.  no reason i don’t want Bono dead but i certainly wasn’t a fan of U2 at the time, or now for that matter.  but as someone pointed out today its a shirt that was made in response to the experimental band Negetiveland’s “u2” ep.
I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For (1991 a cappella mix) by Negativland on Grooveshark
A real balsy maneuver on Negativeland’s behalf using all these samples and not giving one fuck at all.

that album was supposedly put out as kind of a big FU to the popularity of U2 and the album cover was made to look like a new U2 album as well.  OBVIOUSLY they got the shit sued out of them and that album art above is now long out of print and really rare.
I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For (special edit radio mix) by Negativland on Grooveshark
so they renamed the ep the “Guns” ep and changed the art to this and thus you can see how the volition of a shirt design has become.

It’s all really quite interesting really.  the whole scenario, like the fact that Greg Ginn put this out on SST, the fact that this is totally indicative of 1991 weird trippy shit form people who clearly listened to a lot of Dead Kennedys.  the art debacle and most of all listening to KC Kasem ranting off much talking about “who give s a shit about U2 band members because no one will give a shit anyway, for Christ’s sake that are from England!”
Listen to both songs i assure you you will find it interesting.  and if you love this shirt I’m pretty sure good ‘ol Greg is still capitalizing off this design today is his crappy SST Superstore.

Day: 1078
Shirt: Oasis - Mushroom Cloud (Dig Out Your Soul Tour)
Color:  White
Brand: American Apparel
Source:  Crazy to think Dig Out Your Soul was 6 years ago.. Sad.  i still think it was IS a good record.
anyways this weekend to pass the time by until i die i watched

the “Upside Down Movie” the Creation Records Documentary.  Really fucking great story.  well not great but impressive.  the plot line is like pretty much every other rock n roll story.  field by drugs, blow money, almost go under, then back on top.  I sometimes feel like i need to go on a serious drug bender in my life so that people will think i made a comeback as opposed to just being a level headed guy who did it without blowing all his money on drugs. you never hear that story.  its just not as exciting.  man gets a ton a money invests and spends it wisely and just lives.  he is smart.  no one is going to see that at Sundance.  the only down side of watching something like this is that you, or at least i do get kinda down on myself what wtf did i do?  this guy signed Oasis, Swervedriver, Primal Scream, My Bloody Valentine, Sugar, Ride, Jesus & Mary Chain, Slowdive, Saint Etienne, Teenage Fanclub, and Super Furry Animals.  sorta makes me feel like what that fuck have a contributed in this world.  any ays its pretty impressive bill of bands and crazy how it all was ket together with some drugs, tape and a few loyal employees.  perhaps I’m one of the loyal employee people.  not exciting at all.
