Day: 896Shirt: the Smiths - I Started Something I Couldn’t FinishColor:  Olive GreenBrand: American Apparel Power WashedSource: #3 in the series of 5 Smiths shirts i made this month.  it was originally supposed to be a shirt for every single off of my favorite Smiths album Strangeways.. got kaiboshed cause i couldn’t find good art for “Last Night I dreamt” and Stop Me just looked silly.  I was going to add Sheila Take a Bow too since it would have been close to that era..but blah bah..turned into what it was.
I really love tho song tho, it is the one that always gets me when i listen to the record, i don’t know why but it instantly transports me to my high school Jr year driving around my Orange 1970 VW fastback with this cassette in the player.  I’m not sure i will ever have such vivid memories of an music association again in my life, and i think when i am 70 i will still look upon it just as fondly.  that old VW smell, the morning light driving my self to school, and this song playing…
this shirt is only 1 of 2  i made these on American Apparel Power Washed t’s cause i was bummed that Tultex didn’t make a green shirt so i had to make it on black, but i wanted a green that would match the single cover

cause i am stickler like that.  this was as close as i could come with out doing some sort of dying to achieve this color.  since i am not prepared to do bulk shirt dying you got what you got.  the other was for my wife who decided it was to big so it then got given to my friends girlfriend who i hope is appreciating it like it deserves.  it looks beautiful.  almost as beautiful as the song itself.
for those of you nerds that are a level 5 like i am here are the three version that got printed.

and the one you see above.  still for sale if you care / are crazy like i am.

Day: 889Shirt: the Smiths - Sheila take A Bow (Reproduction)Color:  RedBrand: TultexSource: fun fact.  Sheila was the first Smiths song i ever heard.  see when buying tapes as a kid i went for my moneys worth.  Louder Than Bombs  really gave you more bang for your buck, there must have been way over 20 songs on that thing and i was no rich mofo.  Meat Is Murder only had like 9, the choice was simple.  i bought in bulk.

I don’t think it was until 10-15 years later that i learned that this record was all b-sides and singles.  that is when i realized how good this band was.  every their throwaway tracks killed it.  there was no garbage.  only songs that were slightly less amazing.
that is part of why this shirt made it into the batch i made cause this design was important to me, and i wanted to have one to wear for the remainder of my simple life.  a reminder to me of when i discovered on of my favorite bands of my life.

Oh yes if you wanna buy one of these why they exist there are for sale here at www.Vltded.bigcartel.com

Day: 880Shirt: the Smiths - Girlfriend In A Coma (Reproduction)Color:  BlackBrand: TultexSource: someone asked me the other day which of the 5 shirts i made is my favorite, and i couldn’t pick one.  i love them all. i love this band so much that there isn’t a song i hate, not one.  BUT this one is def in my top 5 ill say that.   I put all the shirts up in the store individually now cause people seemed to not want to buy 5 shirts at once.  i forget most people dont enjoy these shirts as much as me and dont need 2 more shirts let alone 5.  so yeah all singles, they are up there.  Buy them, or one for a smiths fan for this holiday season and i GUARANTEE they will be stoked.  click image for store.

Source: So part of what i love about doing this blog is Archiving.  there is that stupid nerd in me that wants to find out everything he can about a subject i love.  there is that small part of me that knows someone will come to my site and be able to discover something interesting about a shirt they love and then share it with the rest of the world.

I met this wonderful lady yesterday who was the previous owner of this shirt. she was not only able to tell me what city she saw this show at but what venue and the fact that she slept over night to get in cause ti was general admission.  On Top of that she was also able to tell me she only washed all her shirts and hung dried them so they are in immaculate shape.  she had kept them stored in tubs in her garage for decades.  it really was the kind of find that most people who are hunters/ hoarders would consider a goldmine.  the kind where you have to contain your excitement so you don’t give away your hand and get fleeced by a greedy seller.

Fortunately for me this was not the case. this woman had so many memories attached to everyone of these shirts i almost felt bad relieving her of them, don’t get me wrong i did, but i felt bad.  But i did feel better knowing that if i was selling off my collection of something i loved and someone came over who appreciated them more than me and respected their existence in this world i would feel a whole hell of a lot better.

That part of me surfaces a lot.  anyone of my friends who know me, know it sometimes is hard to walk away form my house with out some gifts in your hand.  I am a hoarder kind of, but when i see someone with far more passion and appreciation for something that i own i figure it needs to be theirs.  it wasn’t meant to be with me.  I am a firm believer in that.

This woman loved this Smiths shirt, as she should its magical.  She did not know what the Smiths mean to me, but part of her could tell.  She knew that if she was going to let this shirt get away form her it was going to be in a better place.

With that said i am thankful, appreciative and stoked to meet fellow nerds and talk about or times.  there really is no replacement for the one on one haggle battle that ends in you went to this show? and then talking for 30 mins about it.

Last point.  what is Smithdom I’ve never seen it before?
