Day: 681
Shirt: Morrissey - Tour Of Refusal 2009
Color: Black
Brand: Anvil
Source: I got this shirt in Albuquerque, NM in 2009.  i was putting on a Mastodon show down the street literally two block s away when i got wind that Morrissey was playing down the street.  i put my #2 in charge and told him id be back in a lil while.

I Missed the opener the Courteeners which i was really bummed about but i did manage to catch Morrissey.  In NM, in a very tiny club which i was really excited about.  i think i saw half the set, at least 3 shirt changes.  but it was worth every minute.

Today is the big guys birthday.  so this one is for him.  Happy Birthday buddy.  stay well don’t die, come to america again and play one more time.

Day: 601

Shirt: Morrissey - Oh Manchester So Much To Answer For

Color: White

Brand: Gilden Softstyle

Source: yeah i went to the Morrissey show last night at Hollywood High.  yeah it was pretty fucking good.  solid set list, good energy, great crowd and awesome venue.  pretty much all you could ask for.  no complaints here.  I’m just glad it wasn’t a let down show.  it really delivered and i was really happy for that.  if that was the last Morrissey show i ever went to i would be ok with it.

side note dude has been working out..  dang.  i hope i look that ripped when i 60.

Day: 596
Shirt: Morrissey - Head Shot
Color: Black
Brand: Gilden Heavy Cotton
Source: Just me being bummed that Morrissey Cancelled his Kimmel performance i had tickets to tonight.  THIS is also me being stoked about the show he put on sale this AM to play at Hollywood High School that i got tickets to!
For some reason the idea of MOZ playing in a cafeteria or something similar sounds so entertaining to me.  If for nothing else that to hear what kind of banter Morrissey comes up with based on this location.  This picture below really sums up what i expect out of this show…

Shirt: the Smiths - the Headmaster Ritual
Color: Grey
Brand: Anvil
Source:  I know this smiths shirt is a bootleg but since i was in the zone from yesterday, and the day before’s post.  so I figured i would make it a trifecta and post up a smiths shirt.  while i don’t have a Louder Than Bombs shirt (Man i wish i did), this will just have to do.
No more sitting here today writing blog posts.  i need to get some work around the house done before my wife divorces me.  then going to the Gagosian to the Milk And Honey Book release party.  maybe ill see you there.

Day #184 Morrissey - Edith Sitwell 1991 Kill Uncle Tour

Day: 184

Shirt: Morrissey - Edith Sitwell (1991 Kill Uncle Tour)

Color: White

Brand: Tag Missing

Source: Some friends asked me yesterday if i was going to Coachella to see fIREHOSE and to their dismay i said no.  NO??  but you one fIREHOSE they are one of your favorite bands of all time.  This is True I said but my dislike of festivals far outweighs my love of any band.  i would rather fly to SF and go see a club show than have to sit with some dips hit with no shirt on wearing a Dr. Seuss hat standing in the sun all day to see a 35 min set.  Don’t get me wrong.  I love Coachella, its a great lineup, does a great job of getting new bands out to people who don;t listen to music anymore.  It’s just not of this guy.  I like it small, packed and everyone in the house is singing so loud you can’t even hear the singer (see American Nightmare NYE show that FYF put on).

So then the question was proposed what band would it take to get you to go?  Descendents?  Nope seen em.  Black Flag?  Nope seen them with Henry and Keith.  Misfits?  Fuck no, not after the Austin shit show i went to.  It was tough.  Most bands would have to resurrect a dead member (Impossible).

So it came down to two bands.  The Smiths (i won’t hold my breath) cause we all know Morrissey is still selling tickets to chumps like me.  And until Morrissey is slumming it at the local  Macy’s forced to by his clothes off the rack we all know this isn’t going to happen.  So the Smiths.  You can hold me to that.

The second Is New Order.  and I’m not talking 2/3rds New Order.  I mean the whole enchilada.  I never got to see them, and i totally regret it.  Hands down one of my top 3 fav bands ever.  so influential on my life from Joy Division to New  Order the whole shebang, so much involved in my musical taste today.

So there you have it..New Order / The Smiths maybe on the same day?  that would be good.

PS: Who the fuck is Edith Sitwell  I know i have the internet to find out, but i am lazy.  i do enjoy a random image on a shirt other than the bands every now and then.

**Again no music do to copyright block.  but just imagine someone crooning with a rock a billy beat and sounding sad.

Day #166 the Smiths - Strangeways, Here We Come

Day: 166

Shirt: the Smiths - Strangeways, Here We Come

Color: White

Brand: Tag Missing

Source: This hands down is my favorite Smiths record.  I know it is the record that broke the band up, or so they say, but to me i may be biased.  I will try to paint  a picture for you.  When i was a Jr. in high school, i got my very first car it was a 1970 VW Fastback, Oxidized orange with a white racing stripe along the bottom.  It wasn’t pretty, but it was mine and i loved it.

It had a tape player in side and a decent stereo.  Nothing that would go boom, or anything but it did the trick.  After say day 3 of having this car i put in my Strangeways cassette in and i felt like i had a newfound freedom that i never felt before.  trips to the gas station to fill up on REGULAR gas, not unleaded for 97 cents a gallon.  Trips to the store to get one item, drive over to friends houses just to see if they are home.  load of the car with my friends and go hit the local church for a thursday night session i had it all.  All except power windows, air conditioning, and that kind of thing but i made due.  I had a stereo that played cassettes and that was all that mattered to me.

So after a good 3 days straight of driving around Sacramento with the Strangeways as my soundtrack i thought it was time too move on, to something else, maybe it was Music for The Masses or Misfits at that time, some dark shit :).  this 1970 VW Fastback had its own opinion of what i should listen to and refused to eject my tape.  Screwdrivers and paperclips were of no use, it wasn’t going to budge.  In lieu of damaging the stereo and having no music at all i decided to hang with Strangeways for the next year or so.  everywhere i went, it was Girlfriend in a Coma, Stop Me, Rush..it was engrained in my brain.  I didn’t care though.  Imagine that today, there isn’t much i could get stuck in my player without taking a crowbar to it and smashing it before i went crazy.  but Strangeways could play and play and play and i would never think twice about it.

I think i ended up selling the car tape included to a friend of mine and that was that. Still to this day i can listen to that album and it brings me nothing but good memories.  and every time i get into an old car that smells of gas, oil and weird fiber seats it time warps me back to when i was 17 again instantly.  That car and that album were good to me.

Day # 145 The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart - Higher Than the Stars

Day: 145

Shirt: The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart - Higher Than the Stars

Color: Grey

Brand: Tultex

Source: I was obsessed with this band when their first record came out.  i loved the sound.  but being  huge Smiths fan, of course I would be.  Clearly Kip (the singer) was/is too.  Amazing debut record, we loved it at work so much we flew them out to open a Deerhunter show, kinda just so @Trevorkelley and i could see them play live for ourselves…and so it would be a great show too.  they told us they had never been past Chicago and it was their first time in SF.  it was a great show. worth every cent of TurboTax’s money we spent.

This shirt i bought at the troubadour shortly following that show, regretting i didn’t buy the shirt with the album cover on it, i made sure this time i was going to get one.  quickly i swooped in and got the shirt with the EP cover on it. a shirt for an EP.  I like that idea.  i can’t wait till bands start making more merch for singles..but hey i think Yuck did that already

Day: 136
Shirt: Morrissey - The Barber Shop
Color: White
Brand: Gilden
Source: So, Last night was one of 3 Morrissey shows i bought tickets to.  I tools some friends with me who are Morrissey fans as well, but not the nerdy level i am.  Tickets were kinda steep, I’m not gonna lie, hurt for me to even pay for them.  but like i said in previous posts, i always go in hopes of the next show being better than the last, i have hopes..otherwise why would i go.  so yeah, tix $75.  Moz played 14 songs, and hour and 15 min.
I was thinking about what i would pay for $75 an hour.  these things came to mind.
A Good Massage
A Car Mechanic
A Cheap Lawyer (not such a good thing to be cheap about)
An Expensive Meal.
A Psychiatrist
I’m sure there are more (feel free to leave them in the comments) but my point is (to my friends who felt cheated) there are a lot of things that we waste money on in our lives, and i guess its all just a matter of perspective.  If i said hey, wanna come to this party where Morrissey is gonna play for an hour, but its invite only and 75 bucks, you would be in.
If i said hey, Morrissey is on the Corner and is playing songs for you for $4.41 to hear one, I’m sure you would buy 10! right?  my point is yeah it was pricy, but if you were there last night it was because you absolutely loved Morrissey and the smiths at one point, and you don’t even love a mechanic, or a lawyer they are just necessities.  so this was a labor of love.
Granted, i would have liked a little better song selection, there were some deep cuts that i woulda traded in to hear some older MOZ hits but hey, i don’t get to pick and choose you know.  which brings me to my next idea.  ill put it out there.  any band can feel free to steal it. but..
New tour idea. next time a band announces a tour BEFORE it goes on sale.  pick the setlist for each city.  change it up, so each night is different.  then put the fix on sale, so you know exactly what kind of set you are going to hear that night.  if i want the deep cuts night, i will travel to Tallahassee, if i want the hits night i can go to portland.  I i want to see the night where the only time they play the one rare b side i love is in north Dakota, i can pack my bags.  think about it.  good idea right.
Ironically on the “less sunny side of the street” on the same night you have the Cure playing for over 3hrs. which in my opinion was a little too long.
Oh yeah I’m not the kind of guy to buy a shirt and wear it next day, but i had something to say, and hey, its a good shirt.
