Day: 1110

Shirt: NOFX - Punk In Drublic

Color:  Heather Grey

Brand: Brockam

Source:  It is easy to forget how good this album is.  I love this band but for some reason this album will not be the one i reach for at times when i think of NOFX, but jesus H Christ it is hammer after hammer after hammer.  fits a fucking modern day punk rock masterpiece.  there is a reason this band is so fucking big, and has laster for 3 decades almost.  no fucking line up changes.  i mean in the beginning but once they found their stride it just works so well.  fuck i can’t wait for Backstage Passport 2.  gunna be so good.

NOFX is playing all over this summer and i think they are doing this record here and there too…makes me think i need to get off my ass and make sure i go see it one more time.

Day: 1108

Shirt: Against Me! - White Crosses 2011 US Tour

Color:  White

Brand: Gilden

Source:  I did not post this up yesterday  but really the only point i was going to make is that i still have Transgender Dysphoria Blues on Repeat.  i fucking love that album and haven’t gotten sick of it.  I hop ei never do.  I am also stoked that it seems to be popular and I’m happy people can embrace change.  looking forward to an epic fyffest performance too.

Day: 1107
Shirt: Joyce Manor - Matt & Frank
Color:  White
Brand: Tultex
Source:  not sure how many of you have caught on to Joyce Manor (seen at day #552)  yet but here is me saying you should cause i can’t get enough of it really.  They have a new album that comes out today and since it leaked last week and i have been listening to it for Free the least i could do it post it up today.

the new album Never Hungover Again has so many different classic punk influences in it i hear.  while even the band may not think it or know but i hear very distinct sounds of Seattle’s own Sicko (Christmas Card), a little Saves the Day (the Jerk), a smudge of Jawbreaker and dare i say it a lil bit of the good early Blink-182 (Heart Tatoo) as well.  despite having these very pop melodic sounding parts the album doesn’t have that cheesy sound to it all and i think thats where the Jawbreaker influence comes in.  balancing out the pop parts with the angst guitar parts and darker vocals that really make this a fucking enjoyable album for me.
Im not sure what it is for me that really does it for me.  I mean i have seen them a few times and its just the kind of band that puts off a we are having a fun time live vibe that really puts me in the best mood.  the record i think is one of those albums that didn’t jam all the good hits in the first 3 songs, so you can enjoy the whole album and not feel like there is this hit and after that it is downhill. that or the album was just poorly sequenced, but i prefer to think of it as strategic.  I think they are gunna be on tour soon cause they are playing LA soon so ill post some tour dates below and a link to buy at iTunes and stream the album.  and a place to buy merch too :)
I hope you guys like it.  i mean feel like its safe to say that if you like half the bands on here i post up shirts for you will def like this.
Ill Say it before and ill say it again. Support good new bands or else enjoy the alternative, a lifetime of Gaga and Beiber

Shirt: Gray Matter - Bite The Bit
Color:  Black
Brand: American Style t-shirts
Source:  there was a time when Dischord would fart out any record and i (and probably a lot of other kids) would buy it. Didn’t matter what it sounded like you just knew that if Dischord put it out it was going to be just good at the very least.  i spent a lot of tome buying albums on the back of all my Dag Nasty / Fugazi purchases that i thought its only 5 bucks ill try it out.

this ad is a perfect example here.  use obscure Cynthia Conolly photo, add band name at bottom and boom i was sold.  i would say i bought every album form the list above there aside from Fidelity Jones, which i can’t even say i ever remember.  aside from Fugazi, i knew no other band on that list until i mail ordered them.  i think i have to say my most favorite surprise album from this list was Holly Rollers.  i really enjoy ed that album a lot.
Grey Matter was no joke either, it was solid and i liked it but it was never the undiscovered Dag Nasty you always secretly hoped for.  i will take any band on Dischord any day of the week over anything that gets played on the radio today tho.  anyday.

Shirt: 411 - This Isn’t Me Flipside Ad
Color:  Tennis Ball Green
Brand: Fruit Of The Loom Best
Source:  So today is the 3 year anniversary of this blog!  kinda rad right?  3 years of not wearing the same band shirt.  thats  along fucking time.  its actually been a lot of work too and I’m surprised to be honest it has lasted this long.
The above is a shirt i made yesterday myself.  i thought it was appropriate to put up today because it is very indicative of why this blog exists in the first place.  as a kid i would see something and think to myself , damn! that would make a good shirt, and no one would ever make it.  so i would teach myself how to screen print and make them myself.  sometimes 1 only sometimes i would make a dozen and give them to bands at shows to sell cause i was frustrated they didn’t have merch to sell.  i just wanted to make it happen.  i hated seeing a missed opportunity you know?
i saw the above image in an old Flipside magazine.  i love looking through the old issues and looking at crowd shouts and trying to scope out old shirts.  or look at old mail-order ads from labels with crappy mocks of shirts that they would only make if there were enough orders.

so i saw this ad and it just struck so many memories for me.  about how i discovered this album, how much i listened to it and then it disappeared.  it was an entity on its own  a piece of history.  my gut instinct is to preserve that, and make sure people don’t forget.  so this shirt was made.  one, one the only light colored blank i had lying around the house.  and ugly color indeed, but somehow it is saved now by the image placed upon it.  what was once lost is now saved, right?
anyways. heres to 3 years! and maybe 3 more. who the fuck knows.  but I’m going to take it one shirt at a time.

Shirt: fIREHOSE - the Little Big Tour 1988
Color:  Black
Brand: Screen Stars
Source:  Sometimes you are patient.  you wait, watch and wait a lot more then somehow a perfect specimen comes across your lap.  this above shirt i have been searching for for years! years on years.  not only did it show up in almost perfect condition it is one of those Vintage XL’s that fits like a large but fits absolutely perfect.  its cherry one might say. if this were a car it would be a Porsche 356 Coupe that was sitting in someone garage covered up and in almost pristine condition.
Those of you that have read this blog for along time know as almost obsessed i am with Descendents shirts i am just as obsessed with fIREHOSE / Minutemen / Mike Watt Projects.  this shirt was really the last tour shirt i was missing.  i have them all but still am in desperate search for a legible “Engaging The Milker Tour” shirt.  i have one but it is just awful condition and I’m hopping there is one out there that has still survived the elements and is awaiting my rescue.  so if you have one or know someone who does, please contact me.  thank you .  now please enjoy some 1988 fIREHOSE

Shirt: Teenage Bottlerocket - Zorlac Pushead

Color:  Red

Brand: Gilden Ultra Cotton

Source:  if this image looks familiar to you its because it used to be… well technically it still is a Zorlac Skatebaords design done by the iconic Pushead.  you may recognize it if you had been following this blog since the early days before i decided to ONLY wear band related shirts.  this was Day #93  wayyy back.

clearly the image has been distorted at some point.  as you can see the earlier one in a lil more squashed in the skull area and a lil darker int he hair area. i notice these kind of things.   anyway i had the displeasure of going to warp tour this year and i walked around and saw all the bands merch and said to my freidn Dave that there wasn’t one good shirt design in the entire place.  all these bands and every shirt was gross.  then not more than 15 seconds after i said that i walked past the Teenage Bottlerocket booth and saw this shirt. then i said ok, ONE good design in this entire tour.  sad but true.  the Drummer form Teenage Bottlerocket was super kind enough to pass this to me as a gift and I’m really thankful. not to mention they are the only band on the tour i was into seeing at all.  great live band if you get to see them go do it.  they are doing their part to keep good punk rock alive.

it didn’t occur to me that i picked a shirt on 4th of July that said Bottlerocket on it. huh!  it was destiny!

Day: 1086

Shirt: Doughboys - Happy Accidents US/CANADA Tour ‘90

Color:  Turquoise

Brand: Screen Stars Best

Source:  Not Canadian but posting this up in solidarity for all my Canadian brethren out there.  for all the bands, artists and nice people that have come out of Canada.  you ever notice you don’t meet a lot of total dicks from Canada.  In fact i would say it was quite rare.  unless you go to the French part maybe.. then i bet you find some dicks.  Really tho, they don’t have much to be mad about.  their country is like a giant vacation lake house.  they have amazing health care.  If you are an artist you get massive amounts of money for grants to make music, films, tour all that shit.  supper supportive.  no one dies from being gunned down.

Day: 1077

Shirt: Descendents - Caffeine Nation Tour ‘97

Color:  Maroon

Brand: Fruit Of The Loom Heavy

Source:  For some reason i won’t go into i found my self yesterday at the the Warped Tour, or is it Warp Tour?  i wanna say i always say Warp Tour but it really is Warped Tour.  I’ve said it before and i ll say it again how much i dislike festivals, and this one is no exception.  except this one had not one single band i was interested in seeing.  a lineup completely devoid of one good band i wasted to see with the exception of “Teenage Bottlerocket" whom i had seen already and they played way too early so it wasn’t an option.  Linkin Park played a surprise show yesterday too, only to see the surprised look on my face as "who gives a shit."

That either says something about me and my taste in music or the state of music affairs out today.  you make the call.

So i decided to wear this shirt. the year that Descendents reformed and played Warped Tour.  i saw it at Boreal Ski grounds in Northern California. it was still horrible then but one of my favorite bands of all time was reforming and this was the first time i was going to see them and i would stood in a field with 5Billion people.  it was so many years in the waiting for me.  BONUS there was totally other bands i liked that were playing too. It was also the last Warped tour i would ever attend as a fan.  here are some of the highlights of bands below.  mind you i cut out all the medico shit and horrible bands but left Limp Bizkit for good measure to show you how horrible it can be but cut out Sugar Ray.

Day: 1074
Shirt: the Explosion - Tarantulas
Color:  Black
Brand: Fruit Of the Loom Best
Source:  This was yesterday, i got busy and technically I haven’t showered yet so I’m still wearing this shirt.
I was really a big fan of this band when they were around.  great music, great art, great dudes.  i remember like a lot of bands this band was getting their dong sucked by every major label and kinda like Cave In people were loosing it and creating all these crazy expectations for them to live up to.  there is nothing like saying this band is the next Nirvana or Sex Pistols to cliché their band to a certain death.  eventually this band folded and for who knows why dissolved.  but i will say I’m glad they went out on top.  thats the way to go.
