Day: 1013 Shirt: the Smiths - Meat Is Murder Tour Shirt Color: Tan Brand: American Apparel Power Wash
Source: this is actually a remake of a remake i didm many years ago and have come a long way since then so i made the shirt right this time. the one above is a one off i printed on a different color shirt to test out how it would look. its ok, i don’t love it but i find i have so many White and Black shirts its nice to change it up a bit.
this one above is one i wore on day #045 it was band pantone matching, the shapes were off. the print was sarong size. it was just sloppy. i have learned a long since then and feel like the new one is much nicer.
Day: 985 Shirt: Morrissey - Moz Angeles Color: White Brand: Fruit Of the Loom Heavy
Source: So today according to one Wiki Entry is the 20th anniversary of Vauxhall & I but according to another it was last week. i can only chalk this up to release dates staggered in different countries. so i will just assume it is today and leave it at that. Either Way it was this week so praise the almighty Moz, unite and move on.
Vauxhaull is this great album for people but ill be honest, it is on the bottom of the list for Moz albums for me. that sounds like it is a bad album in my opinion but no, that couldn’t be farther from the truth. tis just that i like other albums way more. like if i was stranded on a desert island it wouldn’t be the first Moz album id reach for. crazily enough my fav album is one that i think people like least which is Southpaw Grammar. i love how dark that record gets, i love the production and the sounds on it. but thats me. I’m sure many people disagree and i’m also sure depending on what Morriseey album you picked up first your opinion will be different. we can all agree that all his albums are good tho I’m sure. just different rankings of good.
I also need to iron my shirts or let them sit so they are obviously not pulled right off the shelve with fold marks on them too. dang I’m a slog. Morrissey would not be proud.
Day: 923 Shirt: the Smiths - Shoplifters of the World (Reproduction) Color: White Brand: Fruit Of the Loom Best Source: A Better example of when you design but don’t try to print yourself and have more skilled people doing it who don’t try to overload themselves. a much finer product in my opinion and one i am more used to.
Day: 896 Shirt: the Smiths - I Started Something I Couldn’t Finish Color: Olive Green Brand: American Apparel Power Washed Source: #3 in the series of 5 Smiths shirts i made this month. it was originally supposed to be a shirt for every single off of my favorite Smiths album Strangeways.. got kaiboshed cause i couldn’t find good art for “Last Night I dreamt” and Stop Me just looked silly. I was going to add Sheila Take a Bow too since it would have been close to that era..but blah bah..turned into what it was.
I really love tho song tho, it is the one that always gets me when i listen to the record, i don’t know why but it instantly transports me to my high school Jr year driving around my Orange 1970 VW fastback with this cassette in the player. I’m not sure i will ever have such vivid memories of an music association again in my life, and i think when i am 70 i will still look upon it just as fondly. that old VW smell, the morning light driving my self to school, and this song playing…
this shirt is only 1 of 2 i made these on American Apparel Power Washed t’s cause i was bummed that Tultex didn’t make a green shirt so i had to make it on black, but i wanted a green that would match the single cover
cause i am stickler like that. this was as close as i could come with out doing some sort of dying to achieve this color. since i am not prepared to do bulk shirt dying you got what you got. the other was for my wife who decided it was to big so it then got given to my friends girlfriend who i hope is appreciating it like it deserves. it looks beautiful. almost as beautiful as the song itself.
for those of you nerds that are a level 5 like i am here are the three version that got printed.
Day: 889 Shirt: the Smiths - Sheila take A Bow (Reproduction) Color: Red Brand: Tultex Source: fun fact. Sheila was the first Smiths song i ever heard. see when buying tapes as a kid i went for my moneys worth. Louder Than Bombs really gave you more bang for your buck, there must have been way over 20 songs on that thing and i was no rich mofo. Meat Is Murder only had like 9, the choice was simple. i bought in bulk.
I don’t think it was until 10-15 years later that i learned that this record was all b-sides and singles. that is when i realized how good this band was. every their throwaway tracks killed it. there was no garbage. only songs that were slightly less amazing.
that is part of why this shirt made it into the batch i made cause this design was important to me, and i wanted to have one to wear for the remainder of my simple life. a reminder to me of when i discovered on of my favorite bands of my life.
Day: 880 Shirt: the Smiths - Girlfriend In A Coma (Reproduction) Color: Black Brand: Tultex Source: someone asked me the other day which of the 5 shirts i made is my favorite, and i couldn’t pick one. i love them all. i love this band so much that there isn’t a song i hate, not one. BUT this one is def in my top 5 ill say that. I put all the shirts up in the store individually now cause people seemed to not want to buy 5 shirts at once. i forget most people dont enjoy these shirts as much as me and dont need 2 more shirts let alone 5. so yeah all singles, they are up there. Buy them, or one for a smiths fan for this holiday season and i GUARANTEE they will be stoked. click image for store.
so for many years i have been wanting to make these shirts. i finally got the balls to do it and for a very limited time you can buy a set of 5 here. screw black friday , this is really the only gift i would ever want to get.
