Source:  Talk about being in the scene for a while..dang  Keith Morris has live and breathed punk rock music in LA since the Late 70’s.  When i went to see OFF! this year at the Whiskey he said on stage he saw Black Sabbath there when he was a kid.  such a crazy thought to wrap my head around.
Who is the band i will tell the younger generation when i am old and gross that they will appreciate and be in awe over?  So weird to think that is history not as cool now as it was in the 70’s?  It seems that way.  I cant think of any good reason why anyone would be impressed that i saw the Cure at the Troubadour, or Arcade Fire and the Leigon Hall.  i mean cool yes, but it dosent seem to fall in the same cat as Black Sabbath at the Whiskey in their prime.  Maybe it is just perspective.  I got to see Descendents on thier first Japan Tour in a tiny club in Osaka, and that to me was pretty epic.
But back to Circle Jerks.  I have a ton of  respect for Keith and his contribution to the scene, music in general, and to mankind.  For making people think, asking questions and pushing limits.  I def consider him a pioneer and a man of influence and respect him immensely  and will probably continue to support any of his future endeavors till the guy dies.  he deserves that much. consider it punk social security.

Day: 485
Shirt: Black Flag - Everything Went Black
Color: Black
Brand: Hanes
Source:  This might be one of my fav Black flag covers of them all.  maybe even of all of Raymond Pettibons too.  Something about it so menacing.  it could have been a cover to a Horror Movie even i think.  maybe a Freddie Krueger type person who was a landscaper who lops of peoples heads with hedge clippers?  you can almost envision it now.
And the title, Everything went Black.  could be used for almost anything.  Hurricane Susan, last nights election had Romney won.
This Record though, it was just so interesting to hear all these different versions of these songs with different singers.  hear how each one affects the energy of the song.  but at the same time the song is always the same.  It totally points out how Black flag is a great instrumental band, just with different guest vocalists.  Imagine if the instrumental bands you know today did that.  Explosions in the Sky? be pretty neat but weird at the same time.

Day # 303 OFF! - Satan Did Not Appear
Color: White
Brand: Anvil
Source: Went to See the OFF! Record release show last night at the Whiskey.  I don’t think i have been to the whiskey since i did a NOFX show there in 2006, been a while.  apparently Keith Goes there a lot.  he told stories about all the shows he saw there, like Black Sabbath!!! WTF.  Black Sabbath at the Whiskey must’ve been insane.  Who knows, perhaps seeing OFF! there in 20 years will sound just as wild, but somehow i doubt it.  I was more psyched to think 411 Played there at some point Mario said.  what i wouldn’t give to see that show.  i fucking love any band Mario is in.  A Fine Pettibon shirt as well.  FYI OFF! if you keep printing Pettibon designs i will keep buying them.
It’s funny how much Keith Morris shred on most front men.  and the dude is probably twice their age.  some people got it, and some don’t  I guess.  he is 50 fucking 7 for christ sakes.  57!  put that in your pipe and smoke it.
Fidlar played that night too, my first time to see them after already being a fan, and luckily i wasn’t disappointed.  not sure what i would have been disappointed about, it would be pretty hard, but bands nowadays, you never know.  (I’m looking at you Blood Orange!!! get it together)  Fidlar i found out stands for “Fuck It Dog, Lifes A Risk” but somehow i am sure it will end up standing for a whole lot more.  Very reminiscent to me of some old Dead Milkmen, it was a nice refreshing fun surf punk band that looked and played the part, and were legit.  kudos you lil fuckers.  keep it together for a while and crank out some good records.
My Favorite quote of the night.  Keith Saying I’m not Punk, i don’t belong to and organizations kept for the human race.  I’m just old and angry.”
Thanks for putting on the show FYF and Goldenvoice.

Day #161 Black Flag - Nervous Breakdown

Day: 161

Shirt: Black Flag - Nervous Breakdown

Color: White

Brand: Hanes

Source: Last night at GV30 was fun.  I got to see so many old friends, it was really like a reunion of people who used to go to to punk shows, it felt nice and very much like a family.  I got to meet some new friends too!  i met a pen pal and great artist Chris Shary (you may recognize him from all his wonderful art he has done th least 15-20 years for Cruz and SST but most of you people on Tumblr will recognize him and the guy who does all the art for the DESCENDENTS shirts.  all those cool one offs you see that are for NY, Canada, riotfest, pun rock bowling, yep he is the guy who pens them all.  I met the Chemical People, who aside from Dave’s hair look exactly the same, they must own a porn fueled time machine or something. i Met Keith Morris, but i see him all the time. and many more people i won’t bore you with.

I did buy lots of shirts, i’m sure you will see on here in the future. and even bought some extras for my friends Jonah and Michiel, cause thats how i roll.

So as I’m sure most of you heard Black Flag made a lil special performance last night.  All original except for Ginn (of course) i wish he would get straight and make friends, cause i want and SST fest so bad i would shit my pants.  they played i think all of the Nervous Breakdown EP and people went apeshit. it was nice to see people get that excited for something.  Not so excited when they booed cause they only played 5 songs.  thats the thing about humans  you give them an inch and they expect a mile.  fucking ingrates.  people are never happy with what they have.

So yeah Descendents played too, yes it was awesome but i won’t bore you with them details, instead i will just post up the set list,

a photo of some “punk rock dude” with skull face makeup and the worst… everything i have seen in my life, but he was so stoked when silly girl came on, i just laughed.

and lastly my first guest shirt on Minor Thread.  Some guy with an awesome old SST shirt who sang every lyric to every song last night, he was a champ.
