Day: 596
Shirt: Morrissey - Head Shot
Color: Black
Brand: Gilden Heavy Cotton
Source: Just me being bummed that Morrissey Cancelled his Kimmel performance i had tickets to tonight. THIS is also me being stoked about the show he put on sale this AM to play at Hollywood High School that i got tickets to!
For some reason the idea of MOZ playing in a cafeteria or something similar sounds so entertaining to me. If for nothing else that to hear what kind of banter Morrissey comes up with based on this location. This picture below really sums up what i expect out of this show…

Day #383 Friendly Fires - Pala Release Tour 2011
Color: Navy
Brand: Next Level
Source: So i was so preoccupied with doing things yesterday (hey it was saturday cut me some slack) i forgot to post. weird. i uploaded a shirt pic and everything then just forgot to post.
Needless to say i love this band and this shirt. the first time i saw Friendly Fires at the Troubadour was the last time i danced at a show, it was super fun, and sadly i don’t know if that moment will ever happen again. very few shows make me wanna dance but LCD, and Hot Chip are the other two. It isnt often a band can make the undancable (me) into a dancer. you are talking about a guy who never went to a single dance in high school, i would rather go skateboarding.
No Music today you can thank Beggars and XL for thinking their music is too precious for Spotify. enjoy hanging on to that dream boys!
Day: #290 Descendents - Groezrock 2011
Color: Navy Blue
Brand: Gildan
Source: This post today goes out to all my friends going to and playing in Groezrock this weekend.

Sucks that Descendents are’t playing again but you can’t win em all. You do get Refused, after the US had their way with them, enjoy our sloppy seconds! Lotta solid bands playing this weekend including the return of Good Riddance and DYS. I’m kinda jealous i am not there. but if i was there i would be miserable cause all i can picture at every European festival is either lots of rain and mud or blazing heat. that and lots of crusty punks that only come out of panhandling once a year to see this festival.
This shirt was traded to me for one of my Japanese Descendents shirts i brought back. I had one already but it was an XL and didn’t fit right, this thing fits like a mother fucking velvet glove! The artwork is by the exceptional Chris Shary as usual. It really was and has been one of my favorite (recent) shirts he has done, maybe with the exception of the Vegas bowling pins design.

well and maybe the Japan one too but i am biased cause well i was there. but there really is a great art to finding a good theme and being able to adapt it to this band, or any band or thing for that matter. kids who are in art school now, take notes. It really is a skill. Fries? genius! thats what I’m talking about. i feel bad for him because he is likely doing a show for Houston soon, and god knows what he will make, but I’m sure that he will prove my point even more. Just wait and see.

Day: #285 WU LYF - Fall 2011 US Tour (front embroidered!)
Color: White
Brand: US Blanks
Source: After the inspiring Pulp show on Thursday in Pomona a few friends and i were inspired to drive to Coachella just to see them and leave. Well them and WU LYF. Pulp, WU LYF and maybe Mazzy Star. So Pulp WU LLYF and Mazzy Star and maybe a few songs from Black Keys. That was it. So the drive takes a little longer than expected and we got like i have seen many times before. when you arrive to a show to see the band you want to see just in time to hear the last chord, and then “Thank You, Goodnight!” HA! its happened more than a handful of times to me so its very comical when it happened. We missed WULYF (probably shouldn’t have stopped for that yummy banana shake form Bob’s Big Boy). Head to merch tent to see if i can get the Common People shirt that was sold out at thursday show only to arrive and find out two things.
1. The merch tent at Coachella is about half a mile long. and none of the shirts have labels so you have to squint and stare to see what shirts that have. its almost overwhelming. like the first time you visit Amoeba Records and just stand and stare trying to figure out which direction to head first.
2. The four Pulp shirts they had at the club show wer’ent available for sale at Coachella, only the Common People Design which lucky for me was the one I was looking for. (Note the information you just read was for T-shirt nerds only. sorry)
So after Pulp which was great but couldn’t hold water to night before show, we went to watch Mazzy Star. they clearly needed more practice. Black Keys? I think not. Seen it enough. So we left. So there making the record for me for shortest Coachella visit ever. 2hrs. 2 bands. FYI that was 1.5 hrs too long.
This WU LYF shirt was from the last Troubadour LA show. Granted i didn’t go but i went to the time before at the Echo, but no merch was available then, so had a friend pick this up for me. nicely made shirt, embroidered front logo, tour dates on back it really dosent get better than this. Not sure how many of you had had a chance to pick up a copy of this bands debut but it is pretty phenomenal. reminiscent a lot of Fugazi to me both in music and ethics. Clearly not in the merch category, but otherwise yes.
A very nice break from generic music being cranked out on the radio, or one hit wonder blog artists, that make one good record, then can never follow it up. or then plays show and hs no idea how to perform live or “entertain” anyone let alone a paying crowd. WU LYF falls into none of these categories, which of course is what makes them worthy of a post today on the ever growing Minor Thread t-Shirt Archive.

Day: #281 Ghost - 2011 European Tour
Color: Black
Brand: Gildan Softstyle
Source: Yeah so after my Holy Grail post the other day i have been in this metal mood. I know Ghost and Mastodon are playing together sometime soon and i got kind of excited to see it. It is pretty few and far between when i get amped up about a good metal band. and Ghost is one of them. The other is Baroness who has a new record coming out next month with i am super pumped for. so if you are reading this guy that books tours, put Baroness on the Mastodon, Ghost tour and we will be cool.
(Opens in Spotify)

Day: #265 Snuff - 5 4 3 2 1 Ding A Ling Yahon 2011 Japan Tour
Color: White
Brand: Anvil
Source: I got this via last time i came to Japan, but i missed the tour. Be nice to see the old Snuff Chaps land in the USA again for old times sakes. break out a guns N Wankers show or something.
Today i am off to the fish market to eat sushi for breakfast, then go see Descendents Tonight. pretty stoked, I’m tired , but not too tired to sing a long to a few of my favorites..
see you tomorrow with a merch report.

Day: #248 the Rapture - In The Grace Of Your Love 2011 World Tour
Color: Black
Brand: Tultex
Source: One of the most underrated albums of 2011. People seemed to gloss over it for some reason. well to be honest i think, like any good record it takes a few listens to get you feeling it. but once you get into it, it is a really great record. it showed a lot of maturity on the bands part, while still managing to keep the beat driving sound that once made them popular.
Like the other bands on Strummer records, Recover, Mars Volta, Le Tigre, the Rapture was not sparred the weird curse that every band on that label felt. It is bizarre when you think about it and all the bands that were on that label somehow had a black cloud befall on their careers at some point during or after that event. It almost resembles an abuse relationship where everyone after was damaged or shoo ken to the point of needing some time to recover.
Pieces of the people we love was them getting their feet wet again, but this record they came back into their own. This is the record where Stella Got Her Groove Back. new i never saw that movie but it just sounded cool to say.
This Shirt is form the Fonda show in LA in 2011, great performance. I look forward to the next record cause i feel like that is the one that is going to fuck people up.
Day #209 Descendents - GV30 Raymond Pettibon LTD ED

Day: 209
Shirt: Descendents - GV30 Raymond Pettibon LTD ED
Color: Royal Blue
Brand: Anvil
Source: You remember the great shows, but never the mediocre ones. Right? Only the really great and the really bad. I remember one of the worst shows I ever saw. Wu Tang Clan @ House Of Blues on the Wu Tang Forever Tour. Wu Tang was at least 2 hrs late going on stage. Then their idea of a performance was 12 dudes on stage all trying to sing at once waving towels around. I just don’t get it. I tried to enjoy it, but everything they did I found insulting to music and the people that paid to come see them.
This Descendents show however was put on by Goldenvoice and had Vandals play, then Black Flag reunite for a quick 4 song set before Descendents. I got to meet all these really great people at the show I haven’t ever met or seen in a long time, it was everything you want to see in a show. AND to top it all off, a really cool LTD shirt by the infamous Raymond Pettibon. THIS, this I will remember!
Side note, anyone see anything odd about this shirt? I bet if you look hard enough you can find it.
Day #157 Unknown Mortal Orchestra - Green Shiva

Day: 157
Shirt: Unknown Mortal Orchestra - Green Shiva
Color: Mint Green
Brand: American Apparel
Source: You ever buy a shirt in a dark club and get outside and see it is some bizarre color you didn’t think the shirt was even close to? I thought this shirt was blue in the club, then i get outside and i was shocked to see it was this pastel mint green. New Zealanders… wacky bunch.
So this year is the first time in many years where i didn’t have to compile any Best of list that tries to cram in all the good music into one small list and makes that “the best”. it’s a nice feeling to enjoy the enjoyment of music. although i have to say i was not blown away by too many bands this year. there were a few in particular i loved, like YUCK and this band here.. UMO, otherwise Known As Unknown Mortal Orchestra. Saw these New Zealanders on the Toro Y Moi show this year, great line up / bill. its always nice to see a good tour paring going on. anyways, i really loved this record so here it is, my little year end tribute to a good hard working band from down under.
