Source: I got this shirt in Albuquerque, NM in 2009. i was putting on a Mastodon show down the street literally two block s away when i got wind that Morrissey was playing down the street. i put my #2 in charge and told him id be back in a lil while.

I Missed the opener the Courteeners which i was really bummed about but i did manage to catch Morrissey. In NM, in a very tiny club which i was really excited about. i think i saw half the set, at least 3 shirt changes. but it was worth every minute.

Today is the big guys birthday. so this one is for him. Happy Birthday buddy. stay well don’t die, come to america again and play one more time.

Source: Ok im caught Up now, and if you are one of th eposle that think i died, or fewll of the face of the earth cause my computer was in rpair for 5 days then you should follow me on Instagram here at www.instagram.com/theminorthread . no matter how lazy i am or how many technicals difficulties i have i always manage to keep that up to date. Not included on the Instagram are any of my whimsical memories. so depending on how you look at it, its either a good or band thing. also great for people that think cause i miss a blog post on here i stop the project.

So back to Queens. Maybe you already know, maybe you don’t but their new album “Like Clockwork” leaked sometime last week. I am not exaggerating when i say this that i have listened to it in its entirety at least 15 times. I think it is one of their best records to date. All i have to listen to it on right now is a shitty 192 kpbs mp3 file and the production sounds so beautiful and warm, and just amazing. i cant wrap my head around how good this will sound on a nice sound system on vinyl. I think about it so much i pre-ordered the album. do i have a record player? no. but i will most certainly give it to someone who i think will appreciate it.

Don’t get me wrong the entire record isn’t amazing, its not perfect, but the songs that aren’t amazing are just great. so you have two levels of songs here Amazing, then great. not bad in my book, right? i really am floored to see this show live. and get to see the newly adopted Ex Mars Volta drummer Jon Theodore make solid work of Dave Grohl’s drum beats he bestowed on the record. it s a fucking good rock record. lately rock records are few and far between so when they come along i appreciate them even more. i look forward to jamming along to a few of these tracks 30 years from now on the Classic Rock station.

Well It appears ytou can stream the entire record on the bands website.. t hat rules , go listen to it instead of me going on and on…its ounds way better than me.

Source: Those of you that know who the Drunk Injuns are do not need me to tell you how epic this shirt find is. you know. You know the impact this record had on your lives, and how this band and a handful of others pretty much invented Skate Rock.

I recently negotiated this dead stock shirt out of the hands of the singer and long time Thrasher Photographer him self, MoFo. he said they only made a dozen or so back in the day, Thrasher printed them for him. I have never seen one myself and was contemplating making one because i wanted one so badly.

Why? because i grew up listening to Thrasher Skate Rock tapes. and Beware records. how could you not, they got them in every sake video, it was programed in my brain. Odd Man Out, McRad, JFA, Faction….You either got it or you didn’t i guess. None of these albums are in print anymore, so you either have the cassette version or the LP. If you had the cassette it sounds horrible cause it has been played over and over and over till the tape sounds like it has been cleaned with a rock.

I don’t know what else to say.. this band means a lot to me. They used to cover a Joy Division song. It wasn’t until a few years later that i learned it was a cover and i was spinning, this whole time i thought it was a Drunk Injuns song. they did it so well, that i think a lot of why i love Joy Division is because of them.

So stoked on this shirt i will stop going on about it, but its fucking epic.

Source: Real Talk. before i was ever into punk rock i was a big billy idol fan. i could even do the famous lip move and i had the fist turning pumping thing down to a science.

I was young and impressionable, what can i say. But i felt his shit, i was seriously into it. a few years later i was at a friends house (way punker dude than i) and he was playing Billy Idol and i was kinda stoked to know that he shared the same interest as me, thinking i might have a shred of cool in me. turns out i was wrong. I picked up the album and said, oh i though this was Billy Idol for a second, not some random british punk band. It was Generaton X.

Having no clue in the world that Billy Idol ever existed on any plane other than himself was news to me. super Psyched to find out he was though, some how it kind of turned the tables for my perspective on music back then. Kinda like being a Glen Frey fan and finding out that shit, there is a band called the Eagles?? Now i know that would never happen, I’m just saying. this scenarios i went through is a little more believable.

So I went out and bought a few Gen X records and fell in love. well not fell in love but you know what i mean…it is 1982 and im what..9? so maybe i have no idea what love is, but lets say for the sake of this post, i identified with them a lot. I’ve never really thought about it now but this might have been my very first punk rock influence. Its funny how much i learn about myself typing out this dumb blog everyday. so i guess i owe you a thank you Billy Idol. not that you prolly care too much..but i appreciate it. keep on keeping on buddy. hope to see you in wedding singer 2!

Source: I never say this, but this was an epic 7”. Kind of an epic song to be put out only on a single. that shit doesn’t happen anymore. well it didn’t, now all people do is put out singles it seems. This was one of the early Sub Pop Singles club releases. one of my fav inventions in music. so many good records came out through that. some horrible but it didn’t matter cause i didn’t have to get off my fat ass and go get it, it was delivered straight to my door. Its like all the beauty of record Store day but you don’t have to do shit cept greet the postman.

Im guessing this is why sub pop is still around today, and why they are successful. nerds who love music putting out music. Source: First off those of you that didn’t take the time to listen to BDC post this weekend are blowing it. they are an epic band and that was an even more epic shirt.

TODAY is just an epic band coming form the brainchild of O. photographer, music, fanatic and was also in Olivelawn. these records where hands down shredding good tunes. None of these records are on Spotify, or iTunes but can be bought on the bands band camp page here.

I am not joking when i say i bought a coupled versions of this record cause i played them so much. there is something so unique about them. how grungy, can distorted they sound, but at the same time are so laden with pop riffs and lyrics that just kinda set you off. Mangravy was the kind of record you would put on when you are heading out of your driveway to go on a road trip. as if to say ok, this trip is starting right NOW! GO! your journey begins with this song and is starting off on the right note, pace, the rest is up to you.

Fluf for some reason is one of those bands that reminds me of my old friend Paul. he and i spent a good majority of our life together skateboarding and watching music. so when i hear this record i am instantly transported into a Red 1989 Honda Civic Hatchback with a giant indecent sticker on the back. we are some place on highway 50 maybe going to Benicia, Santa Rosa, Berkeley or SF. any destination was good. it never really mattered in my opinion it was more about the journey. it was a lot like fishing to me. didn’t matter if we caught any fish, it was the journey that was the real score. thanks Paul!

Source: the exact opposite of 666 today. 667 brings you a very emo game changing record for a lot of people my self included. PS hats off to whomever signed this band to Sub Pop. you really had to have some trust to get this signed in an era when Alice in Chains and Soundgarden were ruling the airwaves. Damn this record is 19 years old tomorrow! so crazy to think about. this Jawbreaker, Weezer, and Blink-182 (but called Blink back then) Cheshire Cat was on heavy rotation. See this is the one thing i love about this blog. as i sit here and listen to Diary i can think back about how much i used to (and still do) love music. I hope i look back on 2014 with the same admiration as i can 1994.

I guess things never seem as awesome as they are when they are happening, but when you look back on them and think i can’t believe all these epic bands gads record s out then, and i went to see most of them. I mean fucking Divine Intervention came out in 1994, nuff said.

See this is why i love music so much, and also is the reason i dislike working in the music industry so much as well. I think people go into the industry because of a love for music but then get so caught up in the politics and garbage of it all they forget how much music meant to them. you never get time to reflect and appreciate in that industry, its always on to the next one, on to the next one to quote Jay-Z who i am sure is guilty of the same thing. If any of you are reading this work in music, take a step back today and give your self an hour or two on your drive home and appreciate something you love, not because you have to , but because you want to.

Source: So today is day #666 the number of the beast. kinda anti-climactic if you ask me. I was going to wear the slayer shirt i wore earlier this week but for obvious reasons i moved it up. Mercyful fate is no pansy substitute at all but it is a reproduction cause like i said on my Instagram earlier today where someone said “Is This Real” My response was simple. I wish at age 10 i was cool enough to be cruising at Mercyful Fate shows! I am almost positive if i was that 10 year old kid i would not be alive today.

So like i said this was going to be a my Slayer shirt but the beast took Jeff away a few days too early. Imagine if Jeff would have died on day #666? that would shave been some spooky shit. and no blog should wield that much power. never.

The Funny thing about the number of the beast. its kinda like 7 being a lucky number and 13 being unlucky. i don’t believe in either. I don’t believe in heaven and hell. but i love metal music. and so the #666 has just been funny to me, like i think it is to most people. like ooohhh!!! your sandwich cost $6.66 your going to choke on it and die. no one ever dies. its shut something neat to take a picture of and show your friends about how you cheated death today. you have a new lease on life. so make it count.

Source: Testament is a funny find for me. I think someone left a tablature book at my house once. I looked at it and just thought fuck this…who the hell plays like this? So then I went and picked up a copy of the cassette and started listening to it. I really got into it surprisingly especially since most of the music I listened to was punk. Maybe Pennywise was the fastest at the time. Well I guess Metallica was…And Slayer. Ok, its clear I don’t know what the fuck I am talking about, cause that was 20 years ago. But for some reason in my mind this was some of the fastest music I had. And it sticks out in my head very vividly as such.

Maybe I bought an album or two after this record but for the most part I kinda fell off. Until a few years ago when the singer somehow beat cancer and put out this record called “the Formation of Damnation.” For some reason this record stuck to me like glue and I listened to it over and over. I mean I know why It stuck to me, cause it was a fuckin’ great record that was recorded really well and sounded amazing. I saw them live on that tour for the first time ever opening up for Megadeath on one of the tours where they played a record in full, but Testament blew them away I think.

Anyways this shirt was up on eBay and this album always gave me a great memory of that tablature book and how you can really discover music anywhere at anytime. So I will continue to wear the shit out of it for the next 20 years and who knows. Maybe some day some kid will stare at it and think why is that old guy rocking an even older Testament shirt and go listen for himself.

Source: I was jsut thinking today about how much i wanted last weeks New Build Show to be as good as the zoot woman show in SF a few years back. Maybe i had too high of expectations for the show. maybe it was just not the best night / venue / situation but it wasn’t. I felt like the band hadn’t played a show together in a few years.

It sucks cause the energy that is on the record was just not present live, which is a shame cause the record is great, i have had it on repeat for about a year. Maybe my expectations were too high, but i just wanted what the record had put out.

So what does this have to do with Zoot Woman you ask? well because the same situation occurred where i had been listening to Zoot Woman for years and then i finally got to see the show, and it killed it. slam dunk. everything you wanted and more. So i moved back to listening to Zoot Woman today.
