Source: Ok so i hope you are enjoying my Piebald Rock Block this weekend. I found these shirts on ebay recently and was super stoked. its really hard to find older Piebald merch that isn’t in the emo SM/MED size. So when they do pop up in my size i get real psyched. see i used to work at Big Wheel Recreation or BWR a while ago. when i first moved to LA i met the owner we hit it off and talked nerdy for many days about music packaging and artwork. eventually he asked me to come work with him and help run the label. he was about a put out a new record by this band Piebald who i had heard of and never listened to before but he gave me the album and i couldn’t stop listening to it on repeat. It was a great album and ultimately it was the clincher for me working there. i was really psyched to work an album like this. Songs were stuck in my head and i couldn’t stop thinking about them and singing parts. its really the kind of album you start working in music because of. it had all the right ingredients. good people, good music, and positive vibes.
So that album ended up being “We Are The Only Friends We Have” ITs a record that even still today i listen to from start to finish and enjoy it as much today as i did 10 years ago. fucking great album. that band was so far ahead of their time it was almost crippling to them. i feel like they never felt in place with the other bands they were being toured and packaged with, they were already moving on to new sounds, songs and ideas. most bands will put out the same record over and over and milk it for all they can. Piebald i feel like..well for lack of a better term, cared. wanted to make music and songs that mattered. the follow up to Friends wasn’t as great but had some amazing songs, but i think the band was feeling the pressures of being on the road and a band for so many years they ended just moving on.
I later helped them get their album are-released on Rise because BWR was so fucked they band got all their records back and didn’t do anything with them, so i figured at the very least they needed to be available. go listen to Friends tho. fucking good record with songs about things that really happen and events that actually occurred. not some singers idea of what would deb cool to fantasize a song about. great arrangements that weren’t boring. i dunno i love this record. Great band that didn’t get the desserts they deserved.
